I target mesmers after monks in PvP. I don't like them. They're nasty.

Mesmers are the ultimate bag of tricks. They have a vast variety of skills and spells, and are the best antis. The faster you learn what you want your mesmer to be, the better you'll be off later in the game.

I've got a mesmer going now, and they are indeed one of the most underrated charecters in the game! For example in PvP you can shut down other spellcasters and if you playing an unorganised team, they are as good as dead. In PvE they are very useful against boss monsters, espically the monk ones.

You can solo with a mesmer, just not very well. You need to have a secondary that has some semblance of healing as the one healing spell of the Mes just doesn't cut it. I've found the majority of the Mesmers skills to be rarely needed in PvE (i.e. most occasions you wouldn't benefit from using them); I often have to juggle my attributes and skills around depending on the enemies and locations. I've also found myself relying more heavily on the Elemental skills than the mesmer ones. When you are soloing you have to do a lot of damage very quickly. PvP's a different story, but I'll let someone who actually plays it comment...

My mesmer is my ultimate PvP machine. I can almost imagine the other teams monks on team speak screaming "**** get the mesmer!"

However i find myself increasingly being targeted before monks in PvP. Especially when agaisnt a spike group. Mesmers are soft targets and a good spike group and i am mince meat in seconds. Although this is not really a problem in a good team. Rez signet anyone?

whoever says mesmers are underestimated have obviously never played one or pvp against a team of them. They are in some ways overpowered. Not really but man, you really have to bring in the right build to beat a team of them.

My mesmer is not very far in the game either. Standing in D'Alessio Seaboard announcing "Dominatrix mesmer lfg for mission" - I heard "mesmers are gay" and other such thoughtful analysis.

Ironic, though. To get through the Thirsty River (I believe) ascension mission, right after monks, mesmers were number one request to fill out groups. Take that!

Love my Mesmer and agree that they are absolutely the most underated character in the game. Getting in a group is a nightmare, but oddly enough, almost every successful mission has had at least one mesmer primary or secondary. Any group I've ever been in that had more than one mesmer was a sure and quick win.

Just beat Hells Precipice and had a blast playing. Hard character for the early game tho, but insanely powerful in the late game. With a good combination of skills you are a jack of all trades.

Wish more people understood mesmers. We are the only ones who don't always follow the called targets. I will initially help out, but then I often find myself "softening up" the other monsters in the meantime. Soothing images, Panic, Backfire, Shatter Delusions, Energy Burn, Chaos Storm, Conjure Phantasm and Empathy are almost always in my bar. In about 5 seconds I can inflict about 300+ damage (all bypassing armor mind you) with about about another 200 DoT without running out of energy. Warriors gain no adrenaline and hurt themselves when they attack, spellcasters get punished for doing there job and the whole team benefits.

Can't heal myself worth crap and farming is pretty much outta the picture, but in PVE an PVP with a decent healer and coordinated team, mesmer contributions are usually appreciated. I'm really glad I stuck with it.

I've found that in later missions I tend to look for groups that already have a Mez and a Necro in them. Too much power to overlook.

I was trying to give away two mezmer runes the other day and I was visiting all the missions to find some mezmer primaries. I was amazed at how few mezmer primaries there were. I would have to say that the mezmer is the least used class in the game but I love it as a secondary for my monk. Is there a place to see stats on the character population by class?

Ahhh, at last kindred spirits. My mesmer is, and always has been, my favourite PvE character to play. I tend also, to use the skills mentioned above (roughly, anyway). In terms of teams, I have found at certain stages that it is hard to get a group for missions, luckily my Guild mates have been able to help with that and as such, there is now a sudden increase in the number of Mesmers we have playing (from 1 (me) to about 6 or more).
The only real negative experiences I have had is with immature people commenting on my character being hot and wanting me to join thier Vent server. I should have and ruined it for them, what with me being a guy and all. Mind you my Mesmer is hot and Guildies always mention how impressive the clevage is.....

Have u guys seen a male mesmer dance? no wonder ppl don't want to use them . Anyway, i use my ele skills for pve (fire storm, lava font, etc). Got to tell u though my mirror was down after 2 tries. After reading other folks issues with beating it, i think mesmers could kill one on one the best.

The last character I made was a mesmer/ranger. I've traveled the most in pre-searing than with any of my other characters. I found it fun/cool to use Conjure Phantasm and watch their health drop. I am, however, planning on making a new mesmer with an elementalist as either a primary or secondary. I like the energy storage of the elementalist, but the mesmer has cool clothes. I do have to say, however, it is a totally different stlye of fighting than I am used to, coming from a Diablo II and Knights Online background.
